Continuing their century-long tradition of theater in Park Hill, The Racquet Club is pleased to sponsor Innovative Stages by offering our stage for the presentation of developing plays.

Tusk is the story of an elephant family’s quest for survival, and is a show that challenges the line between human and beast. An absorbing, thought provoking journey for the whole family.

This month’s production is the eighth the club has hosted, and the show is open to all. Suggested donations are $5.00 ($3.00 for students and seniors)

No word on whether Fleetwood Mac will actually be performing…

Park Hill Open Mic 2
Mark Miller Tuning his Bouzouki

Musicians Anonymous held their first Open Mic nite at the Park Hill Racquet Club Saturday night. Around 40 adults showed up to enjoy the cakes, gourmet coffee and music accompanied by uncountable numbers of small children (they appeared to be moving close to the speed of light.) The event also drew a few folks from neighboring Riverdale.

Dina Miller, daughter of event organizer Mark, opened the night with a charming set of traditional songs. Beth Kaufman then took the mic and covered several modern songs and an Irish traditional. Mark Miller and Kieran Michael closed out the night with two sets of originals and covers, and the audience brought Beth back for an encore.

From the children dancing in the hallway to the neighbors chatting at the bar over drinks, the evening had a festive air with one audience member commenting that the music enlivened the club, transforming it into a bohemian coffee house for a night. Watch this space for news of the next Open Mic Nite.

Also on Saturday, come and enjoy an evening of acoustic music at the Racquet Club’s first Open Mic Nite: Musicians Anonymous.

A little further on the horizon is the Downtown and Waterfront’s Mayfair which will include lots of fun events and the opening of the farmers’ market.

Don’t forget the Innovative Stages performance tonight.

And then there’s adult bowling Saturday at 8:00 (and no, “adult” is not a double-entendre in this context; get your head out of the gutter, will ya?).
